Basic sciences — chemistry, physics, mathematics, and biology — are at the heart of understanding our world and driving innovation to tackle global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and energy and water crises.
The UNESCO–Russia Mendeleev International Prize in the Basic Sciences recognizes outstanding scientists whose work has significantly advanced scientific knowledge and contributed to socio-economic transformation at regional or global levels.
🏆 About the Prize
- Awarded annually to two scientists
- Each laureate receives USD 250,000, a gold medal, and a diploma
- Honors breakthrough discoveries, innovations, and contributions to science popularization and international cooperation
- Commemorates Dmitri Mendeleev, the father of the Periodic Table

- Open to candidates with outstanding achievements in:
• Research in basic sciences
• Science education and outreach
• International/regional scientific cooperation - No age limit
- Women scientists are strongly encouraged to apply
- Nominations must be submitted by eligible institutions (no self-nominations)
